Origin and Destination Survey — November 2005

PennDOT conducted a traffic origin and destination survey from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at five stations within the Route 422 project area. The five station locations were as follows:

Along Route 422 just east of the Route 422/S.R. 28 interchange

  • On S.R. 210 just north of Route 422
  • On S.R. 210 just south of Route 422
  • On S.R. 56 just south of Route 422
  • Along Route 422 just west of the Indiana Bypass

Pre-stamped and addressed postcards were distributed to the motorists as they passed through the established station locations.

The purpose of the origin and destination survey is to gain a better understanding of the current travel destinations and travel patterns for motorists traveling the Route 422 corridor. Please note, for this reason, the date, time and locations of the survey stations were not released to the press or public prior to the survey, as it might have resulted in a change in travel patterns for the day of the survey.

While traffic data, such as intersection turning movement and average daily traffic counts and roadway geometric data has been collected for this project, additional information was needed to gain a better understanding of who is using the roadway, where they are coming from, where they are going, and what roadways they are using to travel.

The postcards distributed at the various station locations have six questions for motorists to respond to in order to help identify travel patterns along the corridor. This information will be summarized and results incorporated in the Purpose and Needs Study currently being conducted for the project.

If you passed a survey station and received a postcard, please be sure to complete and return the survey! Your input and responses will help shape the development of the purpose and needs for this project and are greatly appreciated!
